  2. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  4. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  5. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  6. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  7. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  8. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  9. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  10. using the software to an updated program with a printed manual.

  12. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  13. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  14. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  15. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  16. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  17. and bad ones!)  The main difference is in the method of
  18. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  19. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  20. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  21. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  22. Shareware.

  24. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. 
  25. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because 
  26. you can try before you buy.  Because the overhead is low, 
  27. prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back 
  28. guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  32. Users of Magic Zoom Screen Saver must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
  33. "Magic Zoom Screen Saver is supplied AS IS.  The author disclaims all
  34. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
  35. the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
  36. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
  37. quential, which may result from the use of Magic Zoom Screen Saver."

  39. Remember is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  40. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  41. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  42. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  43. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  44. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  45. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  46. useful and find that you are using Magic Zoom Screen Saver and
  47. continue to use Magic Zoom Screen Saver after a reasonable trial
  48. period, you must make a registration payment of $8.00 to Lorenzo
  49. Pasqualis.  The registration fee will license one copy for use
  50. on any one computer at any one time.  You must treat this software
  51. just like a book.  An example is that this software may be used by
  52. any number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
  53. location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
  54. being used at one location while it's being used at another.
  55. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
  56. same time.

  58. Commercial users of Magic Zoom Screen Saver must register and pay
  59. for their copies of Magic Zoom Screen Saver within 21 days of first
  60. use or their license is withdrawn.  Site-License and World-Wide
  61. arrangements may be made.

  63. You are encouraged to pass a copy of Magic Zoom Screen Saver along
  64. to your friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register
  65. their copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered users
  66. will receive a personal key code and information about the latest
  67. version of the Magic Zoom Screen Saver system.
